Pakistan security forces today killed at least 12 suspected militants and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the troubled Balochistan province.
The militants were killed after engaging the security forces during the search operation in Turbat and Dasht in the volatile Kech district of the province, Khan Wasay spokesperson of the Frontier Corps (FC) said.
"Both sides used heavy weapons in the clash which started in the morning," he said adding that security forces reacted timely and protected the locals from terrorists.
Gun battle is ongoing in Dasht since afternoon. Besides those killed several others were injured in the gun battle taking place in the mountains, the spokesperson said.
The security forces also recovered arms and ammunition during the operation, a senior official said.
Turbat which is located on the Makran belt is infested with Baloch insurgents and has been hit by sectarian violence in recent times.
Meanwhile, an FC soldier was killed after militants tried to intrude into the Muslim Bagh area of the province near the border with Afghanistan.
