Pak generals meet to review security situation

Pakistan's army generals met today to take a comprehensive review of prevalent internal and external security situation of the country in the backdrop of the government's planned dialogue process with the Taliban and the tensions at the LoC.
The 163rd Corps Commanders Conference was held at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and was chaired by Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
"The conference was part of routine monthly meetings," a statement released by the Inter Services Public Relations said.
"The forum dwelt at length on various professional matters. The meeting also under took a comprehensive review of prevalent internal and external security situation of the country," it said.
The meeting came in the backdrop of deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi and the government's planned dialogue process with the Taliban besides the tensions at the LoC.
Kayani had yesterday visited the LoC and meet with the troops posted there.

The meeting also coincided with a special session of the cabinet in Karachi on the law and order situation.
The government is ready for an operation in the port city which will be executed through civilian law enforcement agencies.
The army has been asked to monitor the crackdown and provide intelligence support to law enforcement agencies through its intelligence outfits.
