Pak jets kill 12 militants in the north-west

At least 12 militants have been killed in aerial strikes by Pakistani fighter jets in the country's restive north-western tribal region close to the Afghanistan border, the army said today.
The militants were hit this morning in the Khyber district.
Pakistan Army did not give any details about the identity of those killed and the toll could not be verified through independent sources.
The Khyber region bordering provincial capital Peshawar was stronghold of Mangal Bagh who overlords Lashkar-e-Islami militants.
Bagh is an ally of Taliban and is regularly targeted by the security forces.
Pakistan is fighting Islamist insurgents who have killed more than 55,000 people in the country in more than a decade of fighting.
According to the army, more than 1,300 militants had also been killed so far in its anti-terrorism operations in Khyber and Waziristan region.
