India today rejected Pakistan's charge that it was carrying out "attacks" on it from Afghanistan, and termed it as an effort to obscure the challenge posed to the region from Pakistan-based terrorist safe havens.
Reacting sharply to Pakistan Prime Minister's Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz's remarks that India was "involved in the attacks on Pakistan from Afghanistan", Official Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry Syed Akbaruddin said, "We all know, who is upstreaming terrorism and who endeavours to downstream terrorism. It is certainly not India.
"We all also know that the main threat to peace and security in Afghanistan comes from terrorism. Therefore, don't be mislead by those who intend to obscure the challenge that safe havens pose to peace and security in the region.
Aziz had also alleged that India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was non-cooperative in resolving the Kashmir issue.
"The stance of the previous governments in India was subtle but the Modi-led government has said that if Pakistan is to maintain good ties with India, then it should compromise on Kashmir," the Pakistan leader had told DawnNews channel yesterday.
