At least 35 militants, including some foreigners, were killed today in Pakistan after security forces carried out "precise aerial strikes" against Taliban in the restive northwestern tribal region.
The militants were killed after forces targeted Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, one of seven semi-autonomous regions of Pakistan along Afghan border, military officials said.
"In precise aerial strikes 35 terrorists including some foreigners were killed," a military statement said.
It did not identify those killed in the attack but the targeted areas are controlled by Taliban and al-Qaeda.
The death toll could not be verified through independent sources.
Pakistan launched operation in the region in June and so far has killed more than 1,500 militants. But their threat is far from over as they still are active in remote mountainous border region.
The army has intensified its offencive against Taliban after the group massacred 150 people, mostly children, in a horrific attack on an army-run school in Peshawar last month.
The country also ended its six-year moratorium on the death penalty in terror related cases in the wake of the brazen incident.
So far, 20 prisoners have been executed. There are more than 8,000 death row prisoners in the country.
