The federal government retracted Mehar's notification as a federal minister.
However, Mehar, who belongs to the PML-Q party, claimed he had resigned from his post.
Local media reports said Mehar was removed from his post as he was opposed to the Sindh Local Government Ordinance passed recently by the assembly of the southern province.
Some of the reports said Mehar was unhappy with the alliance between the PPP and PML-Q at the centre and had in touch with the PML-N and PML-Functional.
Mehar's son Shaheryar had earlier quit as a minister in Sindh.
Mehar heads the Sindh chapter of the PML-Q.
