Naima Batool, the Deputy Collector of Customs in Lahore, had alleged in an FIR that her husband Usman Anwer and two of his friends had allegedly tortured her at their home and fled.
She said: "My husband used to torture me in the past and he wanted to kill me".
Acting on her complaint, police filed a case under provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The case was registered only after a medical report proved the offence was cognizable, officials said.
A police official alleged that a legislator from the PML-N, which rules Punjab, was backing Anwer.
Police were directed not to focus on his arrest, said the official, who did not want to be named.
