Pak police launches SOS alert service for sensitive places

An android-based application 'One-Click' enabling all sensitive places, including educational institutions, to alert police in case of emergency has been launched in Pakistan's restive Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in the wake of the Peshawar school massacre.
The service is initially being extended to the schools and educational institutions of Peshawar, and will soon be extended for all the educational institutions and other vulnerable establishments across the province.
Any person or the management of an establishment under attack can alert the local police through just a click on their mobile sets.
The move came days after the Taliban militants stormed an army-run school in Peshawar and killed 150 people, including 134 children, during an eight-hour siege on December 16.

The SOS button will automatically send alerts to up to 10 different stations including concerned district police control, concerned field officers and Central Police Office.
The alert, which will be sent in the form of both SMS and telephone call, will contain the address and exact location of the place under threat.

Moreover, the alert message will also contain the coordinates for the venue and will also plot the shortest possible route for the police responders.
Meanwhile, the provincial police chief Nasir Khan Durrani paid a surprise visit to the peripheral areas of Peshawar bordering the restive Khyber Agency.
Khan interacted with the constabulary deployed on these dangerous check posts and inquired about their welfare.

He asked the citizens to keep a close watch on suspicious elements in their neighborhoods and to inform the police promptly in case they any alarming or suspicious thing comes to their notice.
