Pakistan celebrates Eid-al-Fitr

Pakistan today celebrated Eid with traditional fervour, with huge prayer congregations held across the country amid tight security.
The celebrations began with the sighting of the moon last night which culminated the holy month of Ramadan.
Huge Eid prayer congregations were held across the country in mosques and at open places. Special prayers were offered for stability of the country and world peace.
Army Chief General Raheel Sharif celebrated Eid with troops engaged in the Zarb-i-Azb operation against foreign and local militants in North Waziristan. Military said he was in Miranshah, once a bastion of rebels.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain called upon the people to help IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) from North Waziristan on the occasion, Dawn reported.
The two leaders also sought support from the people to end unrest in the country that has claimed nearly 40,000 lives.
In Lahore, Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed led the prayer at Qadhafi Stadium amid tight security.
