Pakistan condemns US drone strikes

Pakistan today said the latest US drone strike in the country's restive northwestern tribal region violated its sovereignty and warned that it will have a "negative impact" on the government's efforts to strike a peace deal with the Taliban.
Condemning the twin attacks last night and this morning, a foreign office spokesperson said, "These strikes are a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Additionally, these strikes have a negative impact on the government's efforts to bring peace and stability in Pakistan and the region."
The drone attack came after a temporary halt of about six months, following a request by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to let his government end violence by Taliban through peaceful negotiations.

The drone strikes resumed as the peace process was torn to shreds on Sunday when Taliban militants attacked the country's busiest airport in the port city of Karachi, leaving 39 people dead.
Drones operated by the CIA fired at least 20 missiles in North Waziristan near Afghan border in successive attacks last night and this morning, killing 16 militants.
A security official said that the morning attack targeted Haqqani network and killed its 10 members in Danday Darpakhel area. Four more militants were injured in the strike.
The overnight attack killed four Uzbek militant and two Punjabi Taliban.
Pakistan has been maintaining that the drone attacks help militants to gain more fighters by playing on anti-US sentiments.
