Jilani made the remarks in a goodwill message congratulating Singh on assuming office earlier this month, Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Chaudhry said today.
"Expressing his good wishes on her new assignment, Jilani appreciated Foreign Secretary Singh's desire to 'pick up the threads' of the dialogue process from where it was left off," Chaudhry said.
In his message, Jilani said Pakistan remains committed to a "sustained and meaningful engagement with India that would produce mutually beneficial results".
Jilani further said he feels the exchange of goodwill messages between the leadership of the two countries needs to be carried forward.
India and Pakistan resumed their dialogue process after a gap of over two years in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which were carried out by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The talks were put on after an Indian soldier was beheaded and the mutilated body of another soldier was found following an attack by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control on January 8.
