Sartaj Aziz, advisor to Sharif on national security and foreign affairs, conveyed the request to a three-member US Congressional delegation comprising Adam Kinzinger, Scott Perry and Juan Vargas.
Aziz expressed satisfaction at the upward trajectory in relations between Pakistan and the US, said a statement from the Foreign Office.
He shared Pakistan's keen interest in increased trade and investment from the US, especially in energy.
Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, the Ambassador-designate to the US, was present in the meeting.
The need to strengthen people-to-people contacts, including interaction between the US Congress and Pakistan's parliament was emphasised, the statement said.
Earlier, the delegation was given an aerial tour of Gomal-Zam Dam and adjoining road projects built with US support.
