China has conferred a top award on a leading Pakistani scientist for his contribution to boost international scientific cooperation.
Atta-ur-Rahman, the first-ever Pakistani to get the prestigious award by the country's top science academy, is the president of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) and a leading scientist in the field of organic chemistry, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The 2013 Award for International Scientific Cooperation was conferred on Rahman by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) for his contribution in boosting scientific cooperation between the scientific institutions of both the countries.
He promoted a Pakistan-China doctorate programme and has sent over 390 students to Chinese universities and academic institutions to pursue PhDs, the CAS said.
Last year, CAS conferred a similar award on noted Indian scientist C N Rao for promoting international scientific cooperation.
