District Collector and District Election Officer Abhijit Bhangar issued showcause notices here today to two raiding teams, election department sources said.
Sources said that the district election officer received a complaint about illegal activity amounting to poll code violation which was allegedly going on at the residence of Congress candidate and present MLA Rajendra Gavit.
He sent two teams one from the flying squad and another team from the static squad to raid the premises.
The two teams reached the spot, claimed to have "conducted" the raid and reported that "nothing unusual" was found during the raid.
However, after District Collector Bhangar had serious doubts, he inspected video recording of the "raid" only to find that recording was not continous, but there were three breaks of eight minutes each in the recording. It was also revealed that the teams had visited the premises twice during the "raid".
Hence he issued show cause notices to members of the two raiding teams which also included policemen.
District Collector Bhangar confirmed issue of showcause notices to raid team members and said that further decision would be taken only after their explanation is received by the election department.
It is also being suspected that somebody from the raiding team must have tipped off Congress candidate Rajendra Gavit about the raid due to which nothing was during the raid.
