He said the BSF will use rain water harvesting to deal with water scarcity at border outposts.
Paliwal took the charge from IG B R Meghwal, who is returning to his original cadre at West Bengal after completing 7 years in BSF on deputation.
He said some work has been done to ensure availability of drinking water to the outposts but still there are some parts on the border where availability of drinking water is a big issue.
Referring to the issue of border surveillance, Paliwal said his focus would be on best coordination of man and technology for stepping up surveillance on the Indo-Pak border in the desert.
He also emphasised on better coordination among intelligence agencies and proper and timely assessment on intelligence inputs.
