Opening batsman Priyank Panchal struck a sparkling 141 as Gurajat reached to a comfortable 286 for six on the first day of their Ranji Trophy cricket match against Railways here today.
Panchal struck 17 fours and a six in his 233-ball innings as he contributed the bulk of the runs scored by Gujarat today after being put to bat at the Karnail Singh Stadium.
He stitched 120 runs with captain Parthiv Patel (58) for the third wicket and another 73 runs with Venugopal Rao (35) for the fourth wicket to take his side to a strong position.
Gujarat though did not begin the day well as they were reduced to 26 for 2 in the morning session after the other opener Samit Gohel (4) and Rujul Bhatt (1) were out cheaply in quick succession before Panchal and Patel steadied the innings.
Panchal was the last Gujarat batsman dismissed around half an hour before the stumps were drawn on the opening day today.
Manpreet Juneja and Rush Kalaria were batting on 17 and 10 respectively at the close of play.
