Panchayat vice president hacked to death

: The Vice President of Melapakkam panchayat in the district was hacked to death by a six member gang near a petrol bunk here, leading to tension in the area, police said.
Police said Balamurugan (35), also the AIADMK local secretary, was riding his bike when the gang accosted him near the petrol bunk and hacked him to death.
Balamurugan hailed from the Thevar (caste Hindu community)
A strong police contingent has been posted in the village and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incident.
