Family members of a 21-year-old youth, who according to the police committed suicide inside the police station, alleged foul play today.
Family members of Jayesh Chauhan (21), resident of Santrampur in Panchmahal district, alleged that the police did not inform them about his death immediately, though they live in the vicinity of the station.
Chauhan was, instead, taken to Surat Civil Hospital as an unknown person, family members told reporters.
They also claimed that Chauhan was short, and the ceiling from which he supposedly hanged himself was quite high, and alleged that it was possibly a murder and not a suicide.
According to the police, Chauhan, a student of Textile Designing, had an affair with Ravina Malhar before he left the city for studies. When he returned to his native place, the two met again after the girl went to stay at her aunt's place.
But her father, employed in police department, lodged a complaint at Dindoli police station on Monday, accusing Chauhan of kidnapping his daughter.
Chauhan's cousin Hitesh Chavda took him to Dindoli police station. He was in custody for two days and his hanging body was found inside the cell this morning, police said.
