A Parliamentary panel today expressed concern over the "shabby" surroundings of the Parliament House and pulled up the civic agencies for their "lackadaisical manner of functioning".
The Standing Committee on Urban Development, headed by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Pinaki Misra, noted that the Parliament House should be kept neat and clean all the more when the prime focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on cleanliness.
"The Committee is anguished over the shabby and messy conditions of the Parliament House surroundings as concrete debris, iron rods, wire mesh etc can be seen lying all over the vicinity," the panel said in its report tabled in Parliament.
"..When Swachhta Abhiyan is the prime focus of the Prime Minister at least the Parliament House should be kept neat and clean," it said.
The Committee pulled up Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and NDMC for their "lackadaisical manner of functioning".
The panel observed that construction of the Parliament House annexe building may miss its deadline for the fourth time due to lack of fund allocation.

It noted that the funds allocated for completion of the project was a "meagre" Rs 23 crore with which it "appears to be impossible" to complete the construction work within the deadline of June 30.
The deadline for construction of the building was breached in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
The panel "strongly" recommended to the Urban Development Ministry to expedite the completion of the extension project by allocating more funds at the earliest.
