The committee meeting chaired by Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary R Parsuram explored available options before it in the light of the Supreme Court directive on the issue, official sources said.
The panel decided to explore the facility of toxic waste disposal available at 27 places in the country and take a decision in this regard after that, they said.
The meeting was also attended by Union Chemicals and Fertiliser Ministry's Secretary, K J Cyriac as well as other members of the committee, besides the Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Department's Principal Secretary Pravir Krishna and Commissioner Muktesh Varshney, among others.
Parsuram said that the state government is committed to follow Supreme Court directives given on August 9, 2012 on the issue of toxic waste disposal.
He said that states where facilities to dispose off such chemical waste is available will be consulted and in case of problems with disposal, the Supreme Court too will be informed about it.
He also said that standard safety measures will be taken and local people of the area too would be taken into confidence before zeroing in on any place for safe disposal of the waste, sources said.
