Congress-led UDF Opposition in Kerala today sought Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's intervention in getting the state's entitled share of water as per the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) agreement with neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
"Tamil Nadu has stopped providing water to Kerala under the PAP, resulting in adversely affecting 20,000 hectares of paddy cultivation inChittor taluka in Palakkad district,"UDF Chairman and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said.
Bharathapuzha and some other small rivers have also dried up due to non availability of water under the PAP pact, he said.
He also said there was a possibility of drinking water shortage in Malappuram and Palakkad districts and wanted the Chief Minister to intervene on the matter.
As per the PAP pact, Kerala has to receive 1,888 cubic feetof water between July to September 30. But the state has received only 1,100 cubic feet, he said.
In September 30, the Chief Minister had told the assembly that necessary steps would be taken to ensure that the state gets its share of water under the PAP.
