The national camp was earlier being held in Bangalore from May 23.
A series of medical tests were conducted in Bangalore after which the list has been pruned down to 33. The final list of 23 players will be declared later.
Papas was originally appointed as the head of AIFF Regional Academy at Navi Mumbai but was asked to take over as the coach of the national Under-22 team as well as the AIFF developmental side, Pailan Arrows.
This was after Dutchman Raymond Libregts declined to become coach of the U-22 national squad as well as that of Pailan Arrows.
Papas was earlier the head coach of A-League side, Newcastle Jets youth team and assistant coach to the first team.
India have been clubbed in Group A of the U-22 Asian Cup Qualifiers along with hosts Oman, Iraq, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates and Turkmenistan. India will play their first match against Lebanon on June 23.
