A Parliamentary panel has expressed concern over vacancies in higher level in various organisations under Culture Ministry and called for time-bound steps to fill up these posts.
Headed by Trinamool Congress MP Kanwar Deep Singh, the Parliamentary Standing Committee observed that the vacancies at higher level exists even after it pointed out in various reports that this would "adversely" affect the functioning of the organisation.
According to the data provided by the panel, around 50 higher posts were vacant in about 15 organisations with as many as 36 vacant posts in Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Among various vacancies, about eight posts of Director were lying vacant in organisations, including National Gallery of Modern Art, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library and Indian Museum, while 3 posts of Director General were yet to be filled in National Archives of India (NAI), National Museum and National Library.
"The Committee is disturbed to note the vacancies existing in the various organizations, especially at the higher level and at the level of Heads of the organizations," the penal said in its report, tabled in Parliament today.
The panel noted that the committee time and again pointed out in its various reports that this would adversely affect the functioning of these organizations.
It recommended that Culture Ministry should take "time bound steps" to ensure that the vacancies are filled up at the "earliest".
The panel also advised the Ministry to co-ordinate with UPSC and other concerned authorities to ensure that the "bottlenecks" in this regard are cleared.
