In a bid to hard-sell Durga Puja to tourists, especially to foreigners, the West Bengal government will showcase the immersion ceremony this year by organising a parade of top 55 Durga Pujas who received the "Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman, 2016".
According to Principal Secretary, Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Atri Bhattacharya, the parade of the idols would begin on Red Road on October 14 at 5 PM onward.
"We have made seat arrangements for 10,000 people to attend the programme," he said, adding a temporary galary had been set up on both sides of the Red Road.
"The immersion is a gala show at Babughat, but due to security reasons, a large crowd cannot be allowed there. The processions are routed through Red Road so that the enthusiasts and tourists view the immersion processions safely," he said.
A senior official of the department said those who could not go to pandals during the four days of festivity could seize the opportunity to see the best Durga Pujas of the city.
