The memorial was dedicated to the nation by Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd).
Param Vir Chakra, India's highest gallantry award, is awarded to officers and enlisted personnel of all military branches for the highest degree of valour and self-sacrifice in the presence of the enemy and may be awarded posthumously.
The memorial would serve as an inspiration to the youth about the bravery, valour and the supreme sacrifices made by the country's brave sons, Singh said.
While Cellular Jail in the islands is a testimony to the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, this memorial will remind the people about the sacrifices made by our brave hearts in the post Independence era, he said.
In his speech on the occasion, the Commander-in-Chief A&N Command, Vice Admiral Pradeep Kumar Chatterjee said patriotism is in the DNA of the islanders and with the construction of this memorial, they have shown their respect to the valiant men of the nation.
