Parents of a 19-year-old married woman were booked in Chhota Udaipur district for allegedly confining her at their residence as she tried to elope with her boyfriend, police said today.
The parents in Simoli village have been booked for allegedly confining their daughter as they tried to restrict her from eloping with her paramour, Chhota Udaipur SP Jaypalsingh Rathore said.
The woman was married around a month ago, and even after the marriage she stayed at her parent's place. On Saturday, she eloped with her boyfriend from the same village and remained untraceable for nearly two days, he added.
The woman's parents somehow traced her yesterday and kept her under confinement so that she may not run away again, Rathore said.
On a tip off, police approached the parents to enquire, to which they said that there is no issue in marrying their daughter to her boyfriend, but she will first have to take divorce from her husband.
A case has been registered in this regard under IPC section 342 (punishment of confining) and the woman's security is also being taken care of, he added.
