Parents held on charge of honour killing

The police today claimed to have cracked a suspected case of honour killing, by arresting a couple on the charge of murdering their daughter in Ganjam district of Odisha.
Sanyasi Dakua and his wife Satya of Hundata village under Purushottampur police station allegedly killed their 18-year-old daughter with a big stone in Chandipadara on July 16.
The arrested couple told the police during interrogation that their daughter was keeping relationship with some boys in the village despite their warning and to keep the honour of the family in the society, they killed her.
As per the plan made by the couple, the family had gone to Berhampur for shopping. While returning home, the couple killed the daughter with a stone and threw the body in and isolated place.
The police had recovered a skull, ankle bones, clothes, purse and a defunct mobile phone from the spot on July 22. Forensic tests said it was the skull of a girl.
During investigation, the police questioned around 100 persons, whose phone numbers were obtained from the cell phone and established the identify of the deceased, the police said.
It took the police around a week to identify the deceased as well as the accused who reportedly confessed to the crime.
