Parents should promote attitude of sacrifice: Nirmala

Regretting that the old customs like narrating 'Ramayana' and 'Mahabharatha' had been given up now, Union Minister of State Nirmala Seetharaman today said people were hooked to TV serials unaware of thieves entering their house and escaping with booty.
Participating in the Bramhastana Temple anniversary here, in the presence of spiritual leader Mathaa Amirthanandhamayee, she said, "The strength of our nation is its history and tradition and custom.
"People used to respect the scholars well versed in Ramayana and Mahabharatha. They used to feed those who organised bhajans and taught moral lessons. To my knowledge that is not happening now," she said.
Many elders were not aware how to bring up children, keeping them in good humour and teaching them morals and values.
When asked if government is looking at removing some
steel products from the purview of the minimum import price (MIP), Sitharaman said no review has started yet on the issue.

Further talking the Indian IPR regime, she said the government is taking several steps to strengthen the regime.
There is a 30 per cent increase in the filing of patent application in India to 3.40 lakh in 2015-16 and 35 per cent increase in filing of trade marks applications.
"The four patent offices and five trademark offices have introduced e-processing of applications. It will reduce paper work," she said, adding the Copyright and the Semiconductor Act has been transferred to the DIPP.
