Parking rates for two-wheelers and four-wheelers in areas under South Delhi Municipal Corporation are set to go up with the civic body today deciding to levy service tax.
The decision to levy service tax on vehicles parked in authorised parking lots came following a communication from the Revenue department of Union Finance Ministry.
Officials said the parking rates will go up by Rs 1 for a 10-hour parking slab.
Now, motorists will have to pay Rs 8 as parking charges for two-wheelers, instead of Rs 7, while four-wheelers will have to cough up Rs 11, according to the decision of SDMC Standing Committee today.
SDMC has decided to take the service tax from the vehicle owners after parking contractors expressed their inability to bear the burden of the tax, arguing that their profit margin was not enough to pay it.
The above decision will come into force after the commissioner issues a notification to the effect.
