The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor visited Tawang to study Sino-India relations including present security situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), an official release said today.
The committee while interacting with the army officers and troops at the Maratha ground army camp appreciated the Indian Army's multifarious contribution in nation building.
The committee was briefed by Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Ball of Fire Division at the Tawang Brigade, it said.
The GoC assured the Indian Army's professionalism and firm resolve to guard the nation's territorial integrity.
The committee paid homage at the Tawang War Memorial to honour 2420 martyrs of the 1962 Indo-Sino War and visited the Tawang Monastery and Dorjee Khandu Museum during their stay in Tawang, the release said.
The Maratha ground camp was established in the year 1983 by troops of Maratha Light Regiment of the Army.
Tharoor also paid homage to the great Marathi warrior Chatrapati Shivaji by paying floral tributes on behalf of the committee, it said
