The Leveson Committee report was brought out by a committee led by Justice Brian Leveson after the 'News of the World' phone hacking scandal in the UK. The 2000-page report had pitched for an independent and strong media regulator.
The meeting of the Consultative Committee on Information and Broadcasting was chaired by I&B minister Manish Tewari and attended by several MPs, a statement released here said.
"The members were also given a presentation on the broad features and highlights of the Leveson Committee Report which dealt with culture, practice, and ethics of the British press. The presentation also highlighted the implications of the report in the Indian context," the statement said.
The Committee also discussed the activities related to Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) and Tewari told the Committee that the institute was in the process of drawing a roadmap whereby quality education could be provided in the field of mass communication in view of the changing media landscape.
