Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was today sworn-in as a Union Cabinet Minister, today left for Lucknow where he will file his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh tomorrow.
Parrikar, accompanied by another Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, flew to Lucknow, where the BJP legislature party is expected to unanimously nominate his name for the Rajya Sabha berth from the state at their meeting tomorrow morning.
Thereafter, Parrikar, who is tipped to get the Defence portfolio currently held by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, will file his nomination papers tomorrow at 12 in Lucknow.
"Parrikar will be accompanied by his two sons during the filing of his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha tomorrow," Rudy, newly-inducted Minister of State (Independent Charge), told PTI.
On being asked if one can now assume that he is the new Defence Minister, Parrikar earlier told reporters, "Wait for another half a day. I will not speculate anything but I don't think there will be any change from your thinking. Let it come officially".
Replying to queries on the killing of an Army jawan and a woman at the LoC in Pakistani firing, the newly inducted Cabinet Minister said, "Let me at least get something officially. Let me get a little briefing. Without being briefed myself, I cannot comment".
