Involvement of Kashmiris in the Indo-Pak talks is necessary to resolve the Kashmir issue, said Awami Action Committee, the main constituent of moderate Hurriyat Conference, today.
"Participation of Kashmiri representatives in Indo-Pak dialogue is a must for making the talks result-oriented. The resolution of Kashmir issue is imperative for peace, prosperity and development of south Asian region," Awami Action Committee (AAC), which is headed by Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, said in a resolution passed at a seminar here.
The resolution urged the leaderships of India and Pakistan to take meaningful steps in addressing the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions or hold tripartite talks among all parties concerned -- Kashmir, India and Pakistan.
The AAC said the Kashmiris are not against dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad, but "improving relations at the cost of the Kashmir issue will be playing with the sacrifices of the people."
The resolution congratulated Pakistan's Prime Minister-designate Nawaz Sharif and expressed hope that he will keep his promise made to the Hurriyat delegation during their recent visit to Pakistan and start a process for resolution of the issues in accordance with the wishes of the people of Kashmir.
The AAC demanded unconditional release of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in different jails within and outside the state.
The resolution reiterated the separatists' demand for the return of the mortal remains of hanged Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat.
The seminar was part of a week-long event organised by the AAC to commemorate the "martyrs of Kashmir".
