CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury today underlined the need for all parties to join hands for checking the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
"We aim at the consolidation of anti-BJP vote ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls," he told reporters here.
Buoyed by the opposition's success in the recently held by-elections, Yechury said the opposition should counter the BJP first with alliances at the state level.
Meanwhile, NCP state unit president Ramesh Dixit met Yechury to discuss the current political situation in Uttar Pradesh, including an alliance of non-BJP parties.
"Both the NCP and CPI-M will be part of any such alliance in the state to counter BJP," Ramesh Dixit said later.
