Several student wings of the political parties, whose candidates are in the fray for top posts in the JNU student's elections (JNUSU), today slammed the ruling AISA for not having done enough towards gender justice on university campus.
"The party slept for the last 11 months and has suddenly woken up to address issues of gender and social justice," said Dinesh Kataria who is contesting for the Joint Secretary post from SFI in the polls.
"SFI is fighting for students. If voted to power, we will ensure a safe campus and push for better infrastructure including hostel facilities," he said at a general body meeting
organised by the Election Committee today.
ABVP's Sourabh Kumar, Presidential candidate, underlined the need to install CCTVs across the campus to ensure safety of women.
"The culture of JNU has degraded in the recent times. We want CCTVs installed in the campus which have been opposed by the left wing parties citing their privacy will be hampered," said Kumar.

Hostels, viva weightage in entrance examinations and creating a placement cell were among the other important issues raked up at the meeting. Parties also emphasised on restructuring the syllabus and starting a JNU press.
"In the past two and half years not a single hostel has been constructed and students have to stay in Munirka paying high rents," highlighted Gopal Lal Meena, Joint Secretary Candidate of ABVP.
Some left parties who have forged an alliance called Left Progressive Front (LPF) attacked the AISA for reducing the autonomy of the university's Gender Sensitisation Committee for Sexual Harassment (GSCASH).
This comes in the backdrop of a sexual harassment complaint filed against two union office bearers with the GSCASH last month.
"We also propose to start helpline numbers and research oriented placement cell which would not include MNCs. Also we would fight to start separate schools for Indian Language," said Lenin.
