The Information and Broadcasting Minister's comments came in the backdrop of NCP president Sharad Pawar accusing the Mumbai-based Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of "terrorising" youths of the minority community by "illegally detaining" them on mere suspicion of being associated to banned Muslim outfits.
"I am really surprised at this discussion now, about ATS wrongly arresting youth belonging to one particular community. Why are we bringing community at all?" he said.
He said that he agreed, that there should be speedy trials, fast track courts and no illegal detention.
"Why should anyone mention about one community? This is one way of communalising public life, communalising politics. We are facing a situation where certain forces are trying to create unrest in the country. Our neighbour is aiding, abetting funding terror.
"They are trying to use religion as a cover. If we fall prey to that and look everything from communal angle, we will be doing injustice to the country," he said.
