West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee today made a fervent appeal to the Opposition parties to be present during the closing ceremony of the state Assembly's platinum jubilee celebrations.
He told the Congress and Left Front members that the closing ceremony would be one of its kind and urged them not to skip the event.
The three-day long closing ceremony scheduled from December four to six would be attended by President Pranab Mukherjee and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
The Congress had been boycotting the Assembly proceedings for the past few days and had said if their demands were not paid heed to by the Speaker, then they might be forced to boycott the celebrations.
The Left Front members had also demanded that former Speakers, former Leaders of Opposition and former Leaders of the House should be sent invitations for attending the ceremony.
