State power and electricity department officials today said that the power may be restored later in the day.
After being struck by lightning, the main transmission cable for transmission of power to at least five districts south of Aizawl snapped and fell down in a deep gorge.
The difficult terrain and thick jungle bush made it extremely difficult to pull out the cable, the officials said adding that jungle clearance work had to be first done making the job arduous especially in a highly inclement weather.
The restoration work was severely hampered by incessant and heavy rain since Monday.
