Assistant police inspector S B More of Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan zone said that acting on a tip-off, Naushad Khan (20), an unemployed youth, was arrested from a street behind a private hospital while selling the drug.
Police seized 173 strips of Alprazolam -- known as 'button' in the party circuits - from him, the API said.
The drug had been manufactured at a Delhi-based company.
According to the police officer, while the printed price of a single strip -- sold only on doctor's prescription -- is Rs 30, drug peddlers buy it for Rs 70 and sell it for Rs 100.
Khan was booked under relevant IPC sections and the Drugs And Cosmetics Act.
Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety caused by depression. It can not be sold without prescription.
