Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today asked the people to take a pledge for passing on the fruits of freedom struggle to the lower sections of the society.
While participating in the freedom struggle, the martyrs never thought whether the next generation will remember them or not, but they gave up their lives for the cause of freedom, he said here on the occasion of 'August Kranti Din', marking the civil disobedience movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi in 1942.
"Thus, the onus is on the present generation to pass on the benefits of the freedom struggle to the lower sections of society and to ensure that poorest of the poor is provided shelter and involved in the development process," he said.
The Chief Minister unveiled a martyrs' memorial of over 100 freedom fighters of Nagpur district who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle. It has been built near Morris College square in Civil Lines area here.
"Every citizen should pay a visit to the martyrs' memorial to know the value and sacrifices of our forefathers," he said while paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters.
Fadnavis said the sacrifices of 100 freedom fighters from the district should prove to be a great inspiration for the younger generation.
