Passenger Vehicle exports touch record high; up 16% in FY'17

Passenger vehicle exports from India touched all-time high at 7,58,830 units last fiscal, rising 16.2 per cent on robust sales of cars and utility vehicles.
Two-wheeler exports were however down 5.78 per cent at 23,39,273 units as against 24,82,876 units in the previous fiscal, 2015-16, according to the latest data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Last fiscal ended March 31 witnessed the maximum passenger vehicle exports with growth in double-digits, driven by highest exports of cars and utility vehicles, SIAM Deputy Director General Sugato Sen told reporters here.
The previous highest export of passenger vehicles was recorded last fiscal at 6,53,053 units.
Growth of passenger vehicles (PVs) exports was led by cars segment which stood at 6,02,341 units in 2016-17 as against 5,32,630 units in 2015-16, up 13.09 per cent.
Utility vehicles also posted a growth of 29.82 per cent in exports at 1,54,153 units as compared to 1,18,741 units in the previous fiscal, SIAM said.

Hyundai Motor India continued to be the largest exporter at 1,67,120 units, up 3.02 per cent, while Ford came second with 1,58,469 units at a growth of 42.94 units.
Maruti Suzuki India's exports during the fiscal were at 1,22,039 units, down 1.5 per cent, while Nissan shipped a total of 1,09,459 units, down 1.93 per cent.
Sen further said that 2016-17 also witnessed the highest exports of commercial vehicles bettering the feat achieved in 2015-16. Total CV exports were at 1,08,271 units as against 1,03,124 units in the previous fiscal, up 4.99 per cent.
He said scooter exports also recorded the highest growth so far at 2,93,592 units as compared to 2,57,481 units in 2015-16, up 14.02 per cent.
Motorcycle exports, however, declined in 2016-17 at 20,25,529 units as against 22,10,615 units in 2015-16, down 8.37 per cent.
