LJP supremo Ram Vilas Paswan today asked the Bihar government to withdraw its decision to scrap the provision of reservation in promotion for SC-ST employees in government jobs, failing which his party would launch an agitation.
"LJP will launch an agitation for reservation in promotion if Bihar's General Administration Department's (GAD) order scrapping reservation in promotion for SC and ST category (employees) is not withdrawn," Paswan, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, told reporters here.
The Bihar government had in April this year scrapped the provision of reservation in promotion.
Paswan pointed out that SC/ST employees in other states are getting quota benefits in promotion.
Asked if the provision was implemented for 10 years only, Paswan said there was no such cap.
LJP Parliamentary Board Chairman Chirag Paswan, who was also present on the occasion, said the party would hold a day-long dharna in the state capital to protest against the Nitish Kumar-led government's decision to put a cap on the scholarship amount for SC and ST students.
Terming the Grand Alliance government anti-SC/ST, Chirag said both Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad have initiated the process to do away with the reservation system in its entirety by scrapping reservation in promotion.
