Paswan intended to meet the victims of the incident but was stopped by the police as precautionary measure, police said.

Six persons were killed and 12 others injured in violence and arson during a protest in Masuri area of Ghaziabad district on September 14 against alleged desecration of a holy book.

The violence erupted after torn pages of a holy book were allegedly found at Ghaziabad's Adhyatmik Nagar railway station platform.

Several police platoons have been deployed in the area to prevent any further violence. At present the situation in Masuri is peaceful.

The UP government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed, Rs 50,000 each to the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to those having minor injuries.
