Kerala-based Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt will bear the full treatment cost of the patient, who was transported by road in an ambulance from Nagaland to here and admitted to the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS).
The cost of the 'full treament of Anilkumar, diagnosed with malaria and pneumonia, will be borne by Mata Amritanadamayi Mutt', the hospital said in a press release today.
The emergency medical team of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) had transported Anilkumar, who was on mechanical ventilator, from Dimapur in Nagaland to Kochi, covering a distance of nearly 3,800 km, and admitted him to the AIMS on August 10.
This was perhaps for the first time that a critically ill patient was transported by road for such a long distance anywhere in the world, the hospital said.
The patient was working in a rubber plantation and the transport was co-ordinated with the help of members of Malayala Samajam in Nagaland.
