Doctors at Maharaja Yeshwantrao (M Y) Hospital have, however, said the cause for the death is not yet clear.
Rameshwar (37), who was undergoing treatment for pneumonia at M Y Hospital, was injured yesterday after an oxygen mask put over his mouth and nose, caught fire.
"By the time people came to his rescue, his face and neck were grievously burnt," the hospital's superintendent A D Bhatnagar said, adding that the reason for the blaze is being probed.
Bhatnagar added that the doctors treating Rameshwar felt that "he died of pneumonia".
His body has been sent for postmortem and the exact reason behind his death would be known only once the autopsy report is out, he said.
