The Patna High Court today gave 20 days reprieve to BJP MP Cheddi Pawan, enabling him to approach the Supreme Court against the previous HC order setting aside his Parliament membership for "hiding" information regarding cases against him in the election affidavit.
Justice K K Mandal gave 20 days to the Sasaram MP to approach the apex court to challenge the July high court order setting aside his election.
The HC said that during these 20 days, the MP could mark his attendance in Parliament but would not be able participate in the proceedings and would have no voting right.
The same judge had on July 29 set aside the election of BJP MP from Sasaram (Reserved, SC) seat for "supressing facts" about pending criminal cases against him in the affidavit he filed for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The high court verdict followed a plea by Sasaram voter Gagan Mishra who had told the court that Paswan had supressed information about a case regarding a protest at Durgawati reservoir which was pending against him.
Paswan had defeated Congress leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar in the 2014 polls from Sasaram (Reserved) seat.
