With farmers in Odisha facing acute shortage of urea fertiliser, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today sought Centre's help for meeting the requirement soon.
"All companies may be directed to expedite their supplies on war footing to meet the needs of farmers," Patnaik said in a letter to Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertiliser Ananth Kumar.
Stating that Odisha is facing severe shortage of urea, Patnaik said it has resulted a clamour by the farmers all over Odisha.
Against the Kharif allocation of 4,50,000 MT, till date 3,09,278 MT of urea has been dispatched to the state, Patnaik said in the letter.
"During the corresponding period of the year, 4,14,291 MT of urea was supplied to the state. This shortfall in urea is most likely going to affect the crop production adversely," Patnaik wrote in the letter to Kumar.
It is learnt that two vessels of urea of Indian Potash Limited and Coromandel International Limited have been berthed at Vizag and Kakinada port respectively, Patnaik said.
"I shall appreciate if 25,000 MT and 20,000 MT of urea are allocated in favour of Indian Potash Limited and Coromandel International Limited respectively to supply to the state by September 20," Patnaik added.
