The decision was taken during a joint meeting of police, irrigation and HUDA department officials of both Gurgaon and Jhajjar districts called by Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi today, an official release said.
In the meeting it was informed that the water in GWC has decreased by 50 per cent in the last three days. If it keeps on receding for another 4-5 days, it will lead to a shortage of drinking water in Gurgaon city, it said.
The patrolling is being done as it is suspected that one of the reasons behind the decrease in water in GWC is that because of scanty rains in the region, farmers whose fields are located on both sides of GWC might have resorted to theft of water from the channel.
GWC originates in Sonepat district and reaches Gurgaon after passing through Rohtak and Jhajjar districts.
