The New Delhi Municipal Council today asked motorists to pay the existing parking charges and not the revised rates.
The revised rates were to come into effect from August 1 but the NDMC decided to defer effecting the hike as no private entity participated in the tender process for operating the parking lots with revised rates.
The NDMC said it has observed that most of parking operators are demanding revised rates unauthorisedly.
"It has been observed that most of the parking contractors are demanding tariff on revised rate for the vehicles parked in the parking lots. The revised rates approved by the Council have not been made applicable," the NDMC said in a statement.
"If any parking contractor or any parking handler in NDMC area demands the revised parking tariff or more than the present prescribed rates from any person, a complaint may be made to the office of the Dy Director (Enforcement), NDMC on Phone Numbers -- 23347080, 23360249, 23348300 & 23348301," it said.
NDMC spokesperson A K Mishra said the civic body has received complaints regarding over-charging by the contractors and it was initiating action to punish the errant contractors.
The current parking rate is Rs 10 for the first two hours and Rs 10 per hour thereafter.
Whereas, revision in the rates would cost the motorists Rs 20 for the first hour and would go up by Rs 20 for each subsequent hour with the maximum being Rs 100 for four-wheeler owners.
