The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) today demanded pay hike for journalists and non-journalists in privately owned television channels.
Appreciating the recent verdict of the Supreme Court to implement the Majithia Wage Board recommendations for journalists and non-journalists of newspapers and news agencies from this month, EMFA in a statement here called for due benefits to television employees like their counterparts in the print media.
EMFA said that nearly 80 per cent television employees of the North East region got "pitiable salaries, unlimited working hours and without any facilities recommended by the country's labour laws."
Earlier the All Assam Media Employees Federation (AAMEF) and Journalists Forum Assam (JFA) had also raised voice for systematic pay hike for all media employees.
Both the organisations had also reiterated their demand for a social media audit in the region so that readers and viewers could get an idea of the financial dealings of newspapers and private news channels.
